About us

The Groovy Grain Beer Co. consists of Chris Hughes and myself Steve Grimes.

During lockdown 2020 with pubs closing we decided to look into making our own all grain beer. We’d tried beer kits in the past and they were ok but not the real deal.

We invested in a Braumeister 20 litre brewing kettle – it had rave reviews as the whole brewing process could be done in the one vessel.

We’d been fans of real ale in the past but became really interested in the American style pale ales and how they differed from traditional beers.

We were fans of Ossets White Rat and read up a bit about how they made it. We knew they used low colour Maris Otter barley and we had an idea that they used three American hops that all begin with the letter C.

We looked up a few American Pale Ale recipes and used those as a template.
